Welcome Back Picnic

Hey First Grade Families!
Last night we held our annual back-t0-school picnic, open to all students, relatives and friends of Kentucky Avenue School. Speaking on behalf of every KAS staff member, WOW WOW WOW! It was very nicely attended, and was a lot of fun in general. Great food, great friends, great fun and great conversation. It's always such an energizing welcome back to the new school year.

For those who couldn't make it, you were missed. There was an amazing musical/storytelling performance from KAS alumni parent Jackie Jonas. She is putting on a benefit show for the school very soon and you will be receiving more information about it from the office. It's going to be an amazing time. I wish I could express my enthusiasm for this from behind this keyboard... AHHH! Anyway, look closely and you may recognize some familiar faces in the few pictures I took. I would've taken more, but it was hard to pull myself out of the story she was telling!

It was fantastic talking and sharing with so many of you last night. I hope you're all enjoying the last bits of summer! I can't wait to be teaching this year's wonderful first grade class.

Take care,
Mr. Dave

Breakout room! ...And a few requests. :)

Hey first grade families!

The time is almost upon us... The first day of school is coming quickly! We have so much fun and learning ahead of us.

As you've read, I've been in and out of school organizing and preparing for the upcoming school year. When I revamped our old "Breakout Room" into what is now the first grade classroom, I needed to come up with an alternate space for it. For most of this year's first grade students, the Breakout Room was only used for music class. The Breakout Room is actually a multi-purpose resource room for 1st through 3rd grades. It has tons of games, toys, blocks, and play space. It's also used for Music class with Miss Suzy, and for art projects that are too messy for our general rooms. I now present to you, the new and improved Breakout Room!

This room is housed in the old 1st grade room, directly next to the office. The Breakout Room has an Internet-connected computer loaded with educational software and will continue to be the home of our Music class. With the class being right next to the office, Sherry and Roberta will be lucky enough to hear the primary grades singing with Miss Suzy every week!
On another note, I have a few requests for parents. I'd like to have more puzzles and board games that are appropriate for 1st grade. We have many, but it never hurts to add to our collection!
I hope that the last few drops of summer you have left are safe and enjoyable. Enjoy the sunshine. :)
Thanks a million in advance!
Dave
